Tummy Tuck

The best candidates for a tummy tuck are generally in decent shape but are having trouble with loose skin or large fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise.

The tummy tuck procedure is a surgical procedure which can take anywhere from two to five hours to complete depending on the severity of your case. The surgery is performed under either a general or a local anesthetic depending on Dr. Young's recommendations.

A tummy tuck is generally performed on an outpatient basis or during a brief hospital stay. The most common method for your tummy tuck involves smoothing out the stomach muscles by placing a horizontal incision that generally spans the hips just above the pubic area. To tighten the abdomen wall, Dr. Young will bring together loose tissue and shorten your muscle by suturing them into the new position. The excess skin which remains after this process is than pulled downward and removed. This will result in a firmer abdomen wall and narrower waistline.

While there is no way to know for sure if you are a candidate for the procedure unless you come in for a consultation, here are some common characteristics of a good tummy tuck candidate:

  • You have weakened or separated abdominal muscles and stretched skin as a result of multiple pregnancies
  • You have an abdomen which protrudes and is disproportionate to the rest of your body
  • You had gastric bypass surgery and now have loose skin remaining which can not be cured by diet or exercise
  • You have lost a lot of weight through diet and/or exercise and have loose abdominal skin
  • You have excess fatty tissue which is concentrated in your abdomen

Although these are some of the characteristics of a good tummy tuck patient, the only way to know if you are truly a candidate is to schedule a consultation visit with Dr. Young.   To schedule your consultation, please call 314-485-2846 or e-mail us today.
