Melanoma and Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common cancer with an estimated annual incidence greater than 3.5 million in the United States. Dr. Young frequently treats skin cancer including biopsy for diagnosis, excision, and reconstruction. Some malignancies, such as melanoma, may also require sentinel node biopsy. For those cancers that are best removed by Mohs micrographic surgery, Dr. Young works with multiple Mohs surgeons to coordinate care and perform reconstruction afterward. The goal is to have optimal cure along with preservation of appearance and function to the best extent possible. Everyone should try to prevent overexposure to sunlight and see their dermatologist if there is something that appears suddenly, changes over time, or is of concern.
